About the Design

The inspiration behind the skirt comes from a pivotal moment in Sughra’s story, when she describes being followed by Taliban men on her way to her art school, The Turquoise Mountain. She escapes by blending into the crowd of women celebrating the Muharram festival near the mosque, where men cannot mix with women.

Sughra's designs are delicate and intricate, evoking the sensation of floating in the air. To capture this feeling, I chose a lightweight organza. The print is attached to the inner cotton layer of the skirt, hidden beneath the transparent organza, creating a subtle yet powerful narrative.
