About The Design

Vera speaks of unleashed evil—destroyed homes, lost lives, and her efforts to protect and rescue those caught in the devastation.

When the war began, I came across a photo of an embroidered map of Ukraine, crafted using local techniques. It was stunning, yet the thought of Russia tearing a piece of that fabric—a piece of culture—was horrifying.

In traditional Ukrainian culture, embroidery wasn’t just decorative; it held sacred meaning. Stitched along necklines, cuffs, and hems, it was believed to protect the wearer from harm by keeping evil spirits at bay.

The hem is embroidered with the names of Ukrainian cities enduring daily attacks, surrounded by traditional jacquard trims featuring rhombuses and crosses—symbols of "field, fruitfulness, family, and harmony."

The embroidery was created by fashion student Liel Masteran, bringing this meaningful design to life.
